SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2026 for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Exams
The Staff Selection Commission of India has released the SSC CGL detailed notification PDF announcing 14582 vacancies for various Group B and C posts. The SSC CGL Exam will be held in two stages: Tier-1 and Tier-2. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam will be compulsory for all candidates. For the SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam, there will be Paper 1, 2, and 3, whereas Paper I is Compulsory for all posts, Paper II is for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Paper III is for candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer. Let's have a look at the exam pattern for all these stages of the SSC CGL Recruitment process one by one.
The candidates must note that the SSC CGL Tier 1 is qualifying in nature and Tier 2 is scoring in nature. The marks scored in SSC CGL Tier 2 will be considered for final selection for the vacancies announced through the SSC CGL Exam.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern 2026
SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam will be conducted online, comprising 4 sections with 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in total and with a maximum of 200 marks. The entire exam needs to be completed in a time span of 60 minutes. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam will be of a qualifying nature and marks will not be counted in the final selection.
The questions asked in the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam 2026 are from the following sections:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- General Awareness
- Quantitative Aptitude
- English Comprehension

A Penalty for Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern 2026
The SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam 2026 will be conducted in 2 phases- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper I (Compulsory for all posts), Paper II for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Penalty for Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section I, Section II and Module I of Section III of Paper I and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper II.

Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs) is responsible for conducting the RRB Group D exam for Level-1 vacancies for the posts of Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Pointsman, Assistant, Assistant Loco Shed, Assistant Operations, Assistant Operations, and Assistant TL & AC in Indian Railways. Candidates appearing for the exam have to be aware of the Railway Group D Syllabus, Exam Pattern, to have an idea about the topics that are important from the examination point of view and hold more weight.

RRB Group D Selection Process 2026
The RRC/ RRB Group D Recruitment process will involve the following stages of examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT-1), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and Document Verification and Medical.

Computer Based Test (CBT)
All the eligible candidates have to undergo a Computer Based Test(s) on the specified date(s), time
and venue(s) as per the e-call letter to be downloaded by the candidates from the websites of RRBs/RRCs. The information about the e-call letter download shall be communicated through the
websites as well as registered email ID of the candidates.
The examination duration and number of questions for CBT are indicated below:

*The examination duration will be 120 Minutes for candidates who are eligible for use of a scribe.
The section wise distribution given in the above table is only indicative and there may be some
variation in the actual question paper. There will be negative marking and 1/3 marks shall be
deducted for each wrong answer.
Minimum percentage of marks for shortlisting in various communities: UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC (Non
creamy layer)-30%, SC-30%, ST-30%. These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2
marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for
them.
Where a second stage CBT is deemed necessary and held, the Railway Administration reserves the
right to treat the first stage CBT as a qualifying test for the purpose of short listing of reasonable
number of candidates for the second stage.
Question Type and Syllabus:
The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are likely to include questions
pertaining to:
a. Mathematics : Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion,
Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest,
Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age
Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
b. General Intelligence and reasoning :
Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations,
Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency,
Conclusions and Decision making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning,
Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
c. General Science :
The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level
(CBSE).
d. General Awareness on current affairs in : Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities,
Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance.
It may be noted that the topics listed above are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.
RRB Group D Exam Pattern for 2nd Stage PET
Based on the merit of the candidates in the Computer-Based Test (CBT), candidates shall be called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Three times the community-wise total vacancy of the Posts notified against RRBs/RRCs. However, the Railways Board reserves the right to increase/decrease this ratio as required to ensure the availability of an adequate/reasonable number of candidates for all the notified posts. Passing the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory, and the same will be qualifying in nature. The criterion for PET is as under:

Based on the performance of candidates in the CBT subject, to their qualifying in PET, candidates will be called for document verification.
Shortlisted candidates should produce NOC from the employer on the date of his/her DV, failing which their candidature will be canceled. The signatures of the candidates on all documents should be identical, either in English or Hindi.
